Semi Finals saw us pitted against Royal Sydney 3 at home on rather threadbare courts with limited bounce. Leila and Val started shakily, being beaten 1-6 in the first set by Judith and Virginia, We then decided to rethink our strategy and changed positions, with Leila moving to the forehand court and Val to the backhand. Whether this helped us or we just settled, who knows but we then managed to win the second set 6-2. This gave us confidence to match up against the second pair who were clearly rattled by Leila's ability to dart everywhere and constantly distract Samantha and Melissa. They found it hard to do anything to gain points and asked for sympathy! We gave little, beating them 6-0, 6-1. Dianne and Denise had comfortable sets against Samantha and Melissa, winning 6-3, 6-3. They lost their first set against Judith and Virginia, 2-6 but like us ralled to win their second set against this pair, posting 6-0. We finished on top, 6 sets and 39 games to Royal Sydney's 2 sets and 21 games. The Royal Sydney ladies were great competitors and gracious in defeat. We appreciated the support from fellow team and club members who sat on the chilly verandah to cheer us on. We also thank Ken and Bob for once again preparing the courts for us.
